Why I hike

This might come as a bit of a shock to some people, but interestingly enough, I've only been hiking for two years now.

In a previous post I talked about my first time ever hiking, and that was at Mount Nittany after I graduated from high school in 2017 and that's when it all started.

When answering the question, "Why do I hike?" there's no one answer. There seem to be a never ending number of reasons why, and every time I go for a hike, I add reasons to that list.

Overall I just love to be outdoors. Whether it's playing ball, shooting hoops, chasing after my dog when she sneaks out, or going for hikes. I just love the outdoors and being outside. When I first started hiking I was always thought that you had to hike up the side of a mountain, or a really big hill as some might say, but hiking is so much more than that and I think that's the reason I enjoy it so much.

Hiking comes in all sorts of shapes and sizes and it can be done by anyone. You can go camping and just go for a walk through the woods, you can climb 19,341 ft. to the top of Mount Kilimanjaro, or you can just go outside and walk around your apartment complex.

Hiking can be done everywhere and the more you hike, the more people you meet. While you may think these people are complete strangers, you both share so many passions and interests in common just by being outdoors.

I could sit here all day and type about the things I enjoy about hiking, such as being able to photograph nature and wildlife, the views from overlooks, spending time with my friends, meeting new people, the list is endless.

Two years ago I went for my first hike and had an asthma attack about half way up, but if I had to go back I wouldn't change a thing, because that was the day I realized how much that hiking interests me and it pushes me to go on longer hikes, or higher elevations each time I go out. So if you ever consider going for a hike, stop considering it, just do it
