Pennsylvania Grand Canyon Part 1

For those of you who don't know, there is in fact a second "Grand Canyon"

Located in Leonard Harrison State Park, near Wellsboro, PA. Not to be mistaken with Colton Point State Park, where I originally went. While the views from Colton Point are outstanding, Leonard Harrison has the best views by far.

Just before reaching the viewing area of the PA Grand Canyon you're offered a chance to stand atop of a tower and have a 360 degree view of the surrounding area. The tower stands about 150 ft high, and if you're anything like me, heights terrify you. However for the sake of the blog, and a small price of $3, I slowly inched my way to the top

Now that we're back on the ground and not being a big baby, the PA Grand Canyon offers a few different trails, the first trail is the Overlook Trail, which is a short trail that leads to an overlook less than a mile away. Along the trail is an old building of sorts that you can stop and admire, or ignore, depending on your preference.

At the end of the trail is the Otter View overlook, which is where we'll end this part of the blog to keep things interesting. All of the overlooks and viewing areas of the canyon offer amazing views for miles on end. Depending on the time of day and year there is plenty of wildlife flying around above, so be sure to keep your eyes open!

There are other trails to hike, such as the Turkey Trail, which will be in the next post, as well as more views and things to do while at the PA Grand Canyon. Part three of the post will include the sunset at the PA Grand Canyon and then a little surprise that isn't related to hiking, but one of the best things to do after visiting the PA Grand Canyon and watching the sunset.

So stay tuned, part two coming soon.

  1. I had no idea there was "another" Grand Canyon! The views are stunning! Had a giggle as you climbed the tower because I totally related! Looking forward to seeing more of this area :)
