Friday Night Hikes

The best part of having a family that enjoys to hike is that you don't always have to go along! Today's hike is The Montour Trail located near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The Montour Trail overall is 60 plus miles long, and is the longest suburban, rail trail in the United States! This hike however is only focused on miles 25 through 29.  The Montour Trail is a hiking/biking/camping trail that extends for miles. The trail offers plenty of wildlife, as well as historic scenery. Such as old tunnels and bridges.  The trail has pulled reviews from TripAdvisor and Yelp and is one of the top trails recommended if you're from Pittsburgh or just visiting near by. There are trail heads and entrances to the trail every few miles so there's plenty of places to start and stop along the way! If you're worried about wildlife, don't worry! Colyer Lake Trail is a 2.7 mile loop around Coyler Lake located near Center Hall, PA. Primarily used as a hiking trail, the trail can also be used for biking, running, or just to out and sit by the lake. The trail is mainly a slightly wooded area on one side with the lake off to the other side. With a clear path direction, well maintained and laid out, it's very easy to see the trail and make sure you're on the trail and not on private property off to the right of the trail. There are also several spots to stop along the trail to sit down and relax and enjoy nature. Which is nice if you're out hiking with children or just need a place to stop and tie your shoe. Rewind a few days to right before Easter Sunday and you'll find me out on the Lakeside Trail in Howard, PA. The Lakeside Trail is a 4.4 mile trail that is in fact beside a lake. The trail is mainly a loop alongside Foster Joseph Sayers Lake . It's a slightly wooded area which at times can be very muddy, so be sure to wear your dirty hiking shoes. There are also a few smaller streams running down through the trail leading back to the lake so be sure to watch your footing or else you'll end up going for a swim!   Off to your left of the trail is the main lake where there's always plenty of people out fishing and enjoying the lake!
